New Headteacher

The Governors of Fitzharrys school are delighted to announce the appointment of Jonathan Dennett as Headteacher from January 2011.

Mr Dennett lives in north Abingdon and has been Deputy Head at Larkmead school for five years. He is well known to many in the community and demonstrated a real understanding of the future needs of children in the town to the selection panel.

Chair of Governors, Lynn Fathers, said “Jonathan’s desire, warmth and ideas to ensure pupils, parents and staff could be proud of their success was immediately apparent. He also challenged the school to sell its achievements to the wider community. We were genuinely impressed over the two days of interviews with the real rapport he quickly established with students and staff. His assembly with students captivated his audience.”

Mr Dennett will be joining current Head teacher Susan Tranter to talk to prospective parents and pupils at the Fitzharrys Open evening on Tuesday 12 October between 5.30 and 8 pm.

Governors are pleased that the success Susan Tranter has achieved at the school has enabled her to secure the post of Head teacher at a larger school in north London.

A wide cross-section of the school was involved in the appointment process - not just Governors, but staff and, importantly, students. We all look forward to welcoming Mr Dennett to Fitzharrys in January 2011.
