Key Stage 4: Years 10-11

During Key Stage 4, students follow courses in the core subjects of English, Mathematics, and Science. All students take part in Physical Education (PE), and will also continue to study PSHE. All students study both English Language and English Literature, and either three separate Sciences or a combined Sciences leading to two GCSEs.

In addition to the core subjects, students will pick up four options subjects.

The vast majority of Fitzharrys students study a Modern Foreign Language and either History or Geography as two of their options subjects. By studying a language and a humanity, in addition to the core subjects of Maths, English, and Science, students will achieve their EBacc (English Baccalaureate) - an internationally-recognised qualification. The EBacc is a set of subjects at GCSE that keeps young people's options open for further study and future careers.

In addition, students may select from a wide range of GCSE options within a system of timetable blocks.  Courses currently on offer include: GCSEs in Art & Design, Business Studies, Computer Science, Design & Technology, French, Food Preparation & Nutrition, Geography, History, Physical Education, Spanish, and Statistics; and BTEC qualifications in Performing Arts and Music.

We review, update and adapt the curriculum each year to meet the needs of our students. As with Key Stage 3, our curriculum is built around Aspiration, Opportunity, and Integrity. We support students in choosing alternative pathways where appropriate. We tailor our offer to each individual student, and we make vocational and other suitable courses available where needed.

Years 10 and 11 are ones of great opportunities, important decisions and new challenges. Students undertake work experience to get an insight into possible areas of career interest and experience the working world. They also prepare for public examinations, plan for their choices post-16 and look forward to some special social events, particularly the Year 11 Leavers Ball.
